I love leap years, I really do. With leap years I get 366 days of misery instead of the usual 365.
Life can be cruel alright.

A new career possibility in my future?

A new career possibility in my future?

I finally broke down a few months ago and got a digital camera. I’ve been playing around with it a bit and took some really boring pictures, some of which you can see in the “My World In Pictures” sidebar on this site. But I’ve been thinking lately that maybe I’ll see if [...]

Another Country (1984)

Another Country (1984)

An indictment of the British class system dressed up like a Ralph Lauren ad Another Country is the movie that made very young and very gorgeous Rupert Everett a star. Whatever other ideas it has knocking around its head (and there are quite a lot of them), director Marek Kanievska’s adaptation of Julian Mitchell’s play [...]

Maynard’s House

Maynard’s House

“Some houses hide you from the terrors of the night. Some houses invite them in.”
First he took possession of the house…then the house took possession of him. For Austin Fletcher, any place was paradise after Vietnam. Even the ancient house in the frozen Maine wilderness left to him by his slain buddy, [...]

A “move” in the right direction?

So mom and I have been talking over the past several days and I tentatively say it’s positive. She has now said that she would like to sell this house and move to a nicer area. She still doesn’t want to go back east yet but this is a good step in the [...]

Cabbage & Noodles

Cabbage & Noodles

One of my absolute favorites. It can be used as a side dish or a main course. Reheats great in the microwave too.
Ingredients:
1 small to medium head of cabbage (shredded)
1 bag of egg noodles
1 lb bacon
Pepper
Fry the bacon and crumble into small pieces, set aside keeping all the bacon grease in the frying [...]

Mei Fun

Mei Fun

A Chinese dish ala me. You can add or not add whatever to your own taste.

1 packet Stir-Fry seasoning mix (I use Sun-Bird)
Shrimp (or chicken or pork or beef or vegtables or whateva!)
Cabbage (shedded or chopped, as much as you like)
2 tbsp oil
2 tbsp soy sauce
2 tsp sugar
1/2 cup chicken broth [...]

New: The Screening Room

As I mentioned in an earlier post, The Screening Room is another one of the new features I’m introducing here. I’ve already got a few of my favorite movies up and will add more as time permits.

If…. (1968)

If…. (1968)

“Which side will you be on?”
Lindsay Anderson’s If.… is a daringly anarchic vision of British society, set in a boarding school in late-sixties England. Before Kubrick made his mischief iconic in A Clockwork Orange, Malcolm McDowell made a hell of an impression as the insouciant Mick Travis, who, along with his school chums, trumps authority [...]

Psychomania (1971)

Psychomania (1971)

“Ride with the Living Dead!”
Somewhere in the English countryside a nihilistic biker (Nicky Henson) decides to make the name of his violent motorcycle gang (”The Living Dead”) more than just a slogan. With the help of his dear old mum (Beryl Reid), who just happens to be a frog-worshipping occultist, he dives to his death [...]
